The Hamilton Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA) is an integrated port network across the Hamilton, Niagara and Oshawa regions of Ontario, Canada. With over 1,000 acres of land and supporting over 140 tenant companies, the port authority plays a significant role in facilitating trade across North America.
THE PROBLEM
HOPA came to Naryant with a robust technology ecosystem and strong rudimentary data collection capabilities, but with limited internal processes and infrastructure to support access to data to support strategic and operational decisions. To continue to evolve as an intelligent, integrated operation, HOPA needed a plan to evolve its technology roadmap to support a data strategy that would better enable key stakeholders to have easy access to ‘fresh’ data, presented in such a way as to clearly guide key decisions.
THE SOLUTION
Understanding and alignment are the foundation to an effective solution. With HOPA, we analysed, identified gaps, and then began building for success.
The first step to addressing HOPA’s problem was to identify key stakeholder's current decision making needs, where existing data was housed and make it more accessible. Naryant conducted extensive stakeholder interviews while mapping out processes, data and technology platforms and usage across the organization, to identify impactful opportunities to streamline data while supporting key decision processes..

THE RESULTS
Through immediate insights Naryant developed a technology roadmap to support HOPA's vision.
Naryant was able to develop a retrospective analysis to provide immediate insights in support of strategic infrastructure investment opportunities, while developing an in-depth understanding of many key systems and data sources at HOPA. This in turn allowed Naryant to develop a technology roadmap that directly supports HOPA's vision to become increasingly data driven.
