Centre for Addiction and Mental Health
INDUSTRY | HEALTHCARE
Based in Toronto, CAMH is Canada's top Mental Health Research hospital with offices across Ontario, specializing in the treatment of patients with addiction and mental health issues.
THE PROBLEM
Ontarians have long been aware of the harmful effects smoking can have. Patients who routinely smoke may choose to avoid clinic visits unless symptoms progress into painful and sometimes life-threatening diseases. Some may have little to no access to at-home treatments, while others who may wish to seek medical treatment cannot do so, resulting in detrimental effects on their health. In addition, many clinicians utilizing paper-based patient registries made it difficult for CAMH to grow and collect standardized data for research, comparison and analysis. CAMH realized an electronic web-based platform would significantly impact the patient registry process.
THE SOLUTION
CAMH’s objective was to help as many people as possible. They realized they needed to partner with a team of developers that would brainstorm creative solutions alongside the standard technical applications.
Naryant has been a collaborative partner since 2012. They have assisted CAMH in implementing various innovative solutions (patient registry, portal, and database management) using their health platform to develop specialized self-help treatments for patients struggling with nicotine addiction. The solutions developed by Naryant have been used as a prototype virtual clinic to treat tobacco and alcohol addiction, and mood management, as well as drive clinician research and analysis.

THE RESULTS
Thousands of patients conveniently access their data from home, and clinicians are saving time and increasing research and revenue opportunities.
Using the applications developed by Naryant, processing patient records and data collection is fully integrated within the new platform. Over 250 clinics register thousands of new patients monthly, serving over 8,000 patients. The portal also enables patients to access their clinic information from personal computers, tablets and devices, all from the comfort of their own homes.
Clinicians can now use patient-reported data from the database while conducting research and analytics in a fraction of the time. By using evidenced-based data, practitioners now feel more supported in opening up new research pathways and potential revenue streams.
