THE PROBLEM
The construction industry faces plenty of challenges during any given year, yet has seen a drastic impact upon supply chain issues, exacerbated by COVID-19, geopolitical tension, rising inflation and interest rates, as well as labour shortages. To successfully navigate these challenges, organizations must rethink their standardized approach to construction projects and begin to properly manage risk.
While some of these challenges are outside Turner’s scope of control, they wanted to develop an action plan to monitor the health and safety of their employees. Looking to be an industry leader, Turner Construction understood that Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) procedures were often neglected, and were a way they could demonstrate and improve their employee emphasis and differentiate themselves from their competitors.
THE SOLUTION
Naryant was able to clean up, analyse and put Turner's data to work to create effective mitigation strategies.
To identify current EH&S risks within the organization, Naryant conducted an exploratory data analysis to gain a holistic view of the current situation. From this initial understanding, Naryant was able to clean up the data and provide a retrospective analysis in order to gain visibility on the current issues. From this approach, Naryant was able to track the frequency of workplace injuries down to the hour across Turner’s different branches. From this discovery, Turner was able to utilize this information to create data-driven mitigation strategies and improve the EH&S of its employees.

THE RESULTS
To remain at the forefront of the curve, construction companies must ensure they have a tight view of their operations. Being proactive and managing risk upstream are ways Turner has leveraged Naryant’s data analytics capabilities to mitigate EH&S risks within their organization.
Utilizing the insights gained from Naryant’s data analysis, Turner was able to become more proactive and better able to manage risk within the Environment Health and Safety Program. This resulted in few workplace accidents and contributed to better employee wellness.
Upon the success of the initial EH&S project, Naryant and Turner continue to partner to find patterns and efficiencies across their organization ranging from management flows, finance and more.
