City of
Vancouver
INDUSTRY | MUNICIPAL
The City of Vancouver (CoV) is responsible for managing solid waste collection for the 2.5 million residents of the Greater Vancouver Area, making it the third largest city with the highest population density in Canada.
THE PROBLEM
In CoV’s journey to becoming zero waste, missed pickups became an ongoing challenge that needed to be addressed. Over half of daily requests from the public were due to missed pickups, resulting in an associated cost the equivalent of two full-time routes annually. CoV realized this issue was not only impacting resident satisfaction but also the municipal budget. In addition, dated technology was being used to process requests making it harder to track anomalies. With the use of Naryant’s fleet software, CoV was able to revolutionize the maintenance of data resulting in more much more efficient service.
THE SOLUTION
Delivering improved efficiencies and higher quality of service across CoV.
Naryant’s fleet software is now utilized in the CoV park, utility, and winter operations fleet helping to further drive down costs, create synergies, and deliver results. Naryant was able to provide a modern solution to solve an array of problems, shifting the focus of CoV back to efficiency and quality of service.

THE RESULTS
With Naryant's fleet software and the integration of multiple data streams along with a user friendly interface, CoV surpassed their initial goals and continue to parlay efficiencies in to other programs.
Utilizing Naryant’s fleet software, drivers were able to keep track of work progress and anomalies in real-time. With an onboard GPS system to provide useful metrics, area completion indicators, and optimized routes, drivers were able to complete their daily requirements in a safer and more efficient way. Naryant also established 2-way communication allowing CoV to reassign tasks on the go, integrate different data streams to visualize actionable information and utilize ML-enabled route planning technology for continuous optimization. In its first year of operations, missed pickups were reduced by 25%, and mid-day dispatch from the yard was reduced by 50%. CoV also saw a 30% reduction in costs from the efficiencies created by the fleet program.
